The Gunpowder Plot

In 1605 King James I was against the English Catolics.

A group of men led by Robert Catesby, plotted to kill King James.

The men bought a house next door to the parliament building. The house had a cellar which went under the parliament building. They planned to put gunpowder under the house and blow up parliament and the king.

Guy Fawkes had to keep watch over the barrels of gunpowder and to light the fuse. the fuse.

On the morning of 5th November 1605, soldiers discovered Guy Fawkes and arrested him.

King James ordered that the people of England should have a great bonfire on the night of 5th November.

Every year on 5th November, the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, Guy Fawkes is remembered.

The English eat jacket potato and treacle on this day.

Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder treason should ever be forgot. The rhymes accompany the celebration of Guy Fawkes Night:
