There are a few things that all U.S. weddings have in common. To begin with, U.S. wedding ceremonies may be either religious or civil. Most brides prefer a large and rather elaborate ceremony if it is their first wedding. Common for all U.S.

In other words, in the United States marriages are based on LOVE. They are not arranged to strengthen family business or influence. Traditionally the bride wears a white wedding dress and white wedding veil. Marriages are not arranged.

A traditional American wedding is organized in churches. The priest of the church conducts the main wedding ceremony. He asks the bride and groom, if they accept each other as life partners; once getting a positive response from both, wedding rings are exchanged between the two. After this the priest declares the couple as man and wife and then the groom is asked to kiss the bride by lifting her veil. Wedding in Church

Before allowing the couple to exchange wedding rings, the wedding officiant asks the wedding guests whether anyone objects to the marriage. In a traditional American wedding ceremony, none of the guests will object. The American bride and groom seal their marriage with a kiss. At this point in the wedding ceremony, the wedding guests applaud and congratulate the newly married couple. Exchanging wedding rings

During the wedding ceremony, an American bride and groom exchange vows with one another. whether the couple chooses to write their own vows or use standard vows, the words traditionally express their love, commitment and promises to one another. Exchanging vows

Prior to the wedding itself, it is traditional for the Maid of Honor to throw a bridal shower as part of the bridal ceremonies. During the bridal shower the bride-to-be will receive small gifts, often of a humorous nature, often gifts for use on the honeymoon. A Bridal Shower

is also followed in an American wedding. It is customary for the bride to carry something old like, a bracelet or a family necklace during the ceremony. Carrying something new signifies wearing the new dress while something borrowed includes a tiara or some other headpiece and something blue includes garter. This fun tradition is believed to date back to the Victorian era. It is also considered to bring good luck for the bride. "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue"

Most specific American features which can hardly be found anywhere else: 1.Most states require medical examinations and certificates before issuing a marriage license and refuse licenses to people with certain physical or mental illnesses. Features

2.When a couple gets divorced, the court may require the man to pay his former wife a monthly sum of money called alimony. If the woman has totally supported her husband during the marriage, the court may decide that she must continue to support him after the divorce. Features

3. Often, after a church wedding, guests throw rice, rose petals, or confetti at the newlyweds as they leave the church. Sometimes, the couple's car is decorated with tin cans, paper streamers, or old shoes, along with a "Just Married" sign. The tin cans and shoes will scare away evil spirits and bring the couple good luck by theirs noise. Rice is supposed to help the couple become parents. Features

Features 4.After the ceremony, there is a party at which guests enjoy dinner and dancing. After the meal, the bride and groom cut the cake, and it is served to the guests. Some single women take a slice of cake home with them. If a single woman sleeps with a slice of the wedding cake under her pillow, she is supposed to dream of the man she will marry.

Another wedding tradition is collecting money for honeymoon in a wedding wheel from the guests. All the guests present at the venue put in a dollar or more in the wheel for dancing with the newly wedded couple. Collecting money for honeymoon

Traditionally honeymoon was all about drinking a certain kind of fermented wine by the newlywed couple for one whole month (moon) after their marriage. But today the concept has changed entirely and is all about going on a long vacation to a romantic place and spending some time together, away from normal life. Honeymoon

Gifts are an important part of the U.S. wedding tradition. Gifts are given to help the new couple establish a new home together; often gifts of cash are given. Gifts
