The history of London began about the year AD 43. Misty Albion

The Romans went to England.

They built a town on the river Thames.

The Romans called it Londinium.

They built a bridge over the river Thames. A tall wall was built around the town for defence.

The River Thames has always been part of Londons history.

Until 1749 there was only one bridge over the river: London Bridge.

There were houses and shops on the Old London Bridge.

Now there are bridges over the River Thames.

In 1066 William the Conqueror and his people went to England from Normandy in France.

William the Conqueror built the White Tower to live in it.

Now the Tower of London is one of the most important and beautiful buildings in London.
