Christopher Milne was born August 21, 1920 in Chelsea. Small, shy and patient, he was clever with his hands. He loved sewing, knitting and making tapestry (гобелен) pictures. Не served in the Middle East and Italy for five years during World War II. In 1951 he set up a bookshop in nearby Dartmouth. He wrote some autobiographical books.

During the First World War Harry Colebourn, a lieutenant of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade ( 2-я Канадская Пехотная Бригада) bought a small female black bear cub for $20 from a hunter who had killed its mother. He named her 'Winnipeg', after his hometown of Winnipeg, or 'Winnie' for short. He took Winnie to the London Zoo. Winnie became a popular attraction in December 1919 and lived until The bear was also very popular with Christopher Robin. It was his favourite animal at the Zoo, and he often spent time inside the cage with it. The bear was Christopher Robin's inspiration for calling his own teddy bear Winnie.....Winnie the Pooh. The name Pooh originally belonged to a swan, as can be seen in the introduction of Milne's 'When We Were Very Young'. Winnie-the-Pooh was published on the14th of October, 1926.

Winnie the Pooh has received the big popularity in Russia too after an output of three 10-minute cartoon films on motives of the book at studio" Soyuzmultfilm".

Christopher Robin received that most famous of teddy bears, Winnie the Pooh, as a present for his first birthday. Eeyore was brought for Christopher Robin as a Christmas present in 1921 and Piglet was a gift from a neighbor of the Milne's in Chelsea. Kanga and Roo appeared in the nursery in 1925 while Tigger didn't show up in the nursery (детская комната) until after 'Now We Are Six' had been written. is everyone's best friend, is always helping his friends with their problems. He is very popular with his friends, considerate, reliable and intellectual. His favorite food is Birthday cake. One of his favourite things to do is hosting birthday and hero parties.

Kanga, a sweet caring mother. She is attentive, serious, clever and pleasant. She is the typical mother character. Roo is a playful, curious, happy-go- lucky child who can be quite a handful at times. Roo loves to go bouncing with Tigger, playing Poohsticks and playing in the sandy pit (песчаная отмель) by his house. His favorite food is milk and he likes most everything except extract of malt (рыбий жир).

is a very gloomy, blue-grey donkey, is stuffed with sawdust (опилки); is a very intelligent animal; is very quiet most of the time and a bit depressed; loves being remembered on his birthday and hates being bounced. His favourite food is thistles.

Owl is supposed to be the wisest and the most intelligent in the 100 Acre Wood. He is very eloquent (красноречивый). He likes to tell wise stories to guests and anyone who will listen (or not). That's why he sometimes can be boring and dull. He can spell "TUESDAY," he spells his own name "WOL." He can even spell "HIPY PAPY BTHUTHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY." ("A Very Happy Birthday with love from Pooh.")

is a little pink pig, probably Pooh's best friend, is sometimes a very brave animal. He is bouncy, cheerful, polite, reliable, considerate and curious. Piglet likes to wear a long green striped shirt. His favourite food is Haycorns (жёлуди).

can be pushy and decisive. He is well-mannered and considerate. He feels very important because he is the second one in the forest with brains. "Owl, you and I have brains. The others have fluff." Rabbit likes to organize things, write notices signed Rabbit and see what everybody else think about them. His favorite food is vegetables and that's why he loves gardening.

Tigger is a very bouncy fellow. He looks a bit like a tiger but the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is that "I'm the only one!" Tigger likes to bounce a lot. His favourite food is an extract of malt and he is known to hate honey, haycorns, and thistles.

is a bear of very little brain (his head is full of fluff), but he is cheerful, honest and pleasant, kind, having a good sense of humour. Pooh has a love of honey and often creates little tunes. He is also the inventor of the famous game 'Poohsticks' and discoverer of the 'North Pole'. Winnie the Pooh lives by himself in a tree in Hundred Acre Wood under the name of Sanders. "It means he had the name over the door in gold letters, and lived under it." No one really knows who Sanders was. In the Disney version, Winnie the Pooh always wears an old red t-shirt. Classic Pooh, however, only wears this old red t-shirt during wintertime.
