Listen to the text: Jack Marsden is 16. He lives in semi - detached house with his farther (a garage mechanic) and his mother (an assistant in the shop). For most of the days his mother has a cigarette hanging from her lips. He can't remember ever seeing his farther without a pipe in his mouth. At the youth club, most of his friends are already smoking. Wherever he goes, cigarette ads confront him. His girl- friend smokes, and at the parties he finds it embarrassing to turn down offers of cigarettes: What's matter, Jack? Are you training? He's afraid he'll stop growing. But Jack has seen other posters, and he knows the dangers involved in smoking very well... Role- playing Imagine you are Jack. Try to persuade your friends to give up smoking. List all bad points. Imagine you are a smoker and your friend is not. Try to persuade him to start smoking. He will talk about the bad things. Find an answer for them. Your doctor is telling you how bad smoking is for your health; disagree with him/her, and say why it's not dangerous. Act out the argument between someone who wants to ban cigarette ads and someone who disagrees.
