if the adjective ends with -e, it is omitted and + (-er )/ ( - est ); if the adjective ends with –y, change –y into -i and + (-er )/ ( - est ); if the adjective ends with the consonant and before it one stressed short vowel so we double the consonant and + (-er )/ ( - est );
