WilliamShakespeare

William Shakespeare was one of the greatest and famous writers. He was born in 1564 Stratford-on-Avon. It was a small English town.

His father wanted his son to be an educated person and William was sent to the local grammar school. When the boy studied at school he had no free time. When he had a rest William liked to go to the forest and to the Rive Avon.

He went to London. There he became an actor. He began to write plays too. Shakespeare was both an actor and a playwright. In his works Shakespeare described important and dramatic events of life. His plays were staged in many theatres, translated into many languages and they made Shakespeare a very popular man.

William Shakepeare died in 1616 on the twenty-third day of April, the same day of the same month in which he is supposed to have been born. Two days later he was buried in the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity at Stratford, where, on the now famous grave, are carved the lines: William Shakepeare died in 1616 on the twenty-third day of April, the same day of the same month in which he is supposed to have been born. Two days later he was buried in the chancel of the Church of the Holy Trinity at Stratford, where, on the now famous grave, are carved the lines: Good friend, for Jesus' sake forbeare To dig the dust enclosed here; Blest be the man that spares these stones, And curst be he that moves my bones.

Among the most famous of his plays are the tragedies of Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth, the comedies of A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Merchant of Venice, and Twelfth Night, and the historical plays Richard III and Henry V. Many well-known expressions come from Shakespeare.

Sonnet 25 Let those who are in favour with their stars Of public honour and proud titles boast, Whilst I, whom fortune of such triumph bars, Unlooked for joy in that I honour most. Great princes favourites their fair leaves spread Great princes favourites their fair leaves spread But as the marigold at the suns eye, And in themselves their pride lies buried, For at a frown they in their glory die.
