Foreword Kamchatka… This wonderful land was discovered by Russian Cossacks over 3 hundred years ago. Even today, however, Russians know very little about it, to say nothing about the rest of the world where most people have hardly heard of Kamchatka. КАМЧАТКА… Эта чудесная земля была открыта русскими казаками более300 лет назад, но россияне и сегодня мало что знают о ней. Что касается жителей других стран, то большинство их просто ничего о Камчатке не слышало.

Ocean The Pacific Ocean. It is hardly ever pacific at the latitude of Kamchatka. It begins and at the ocean. There has been not a single land road built for 300 years run since the time Russian Cossacks discovered it: the only way to get to Kamchatka is by sea or by air. People there go to the continent and come back from the continent Тихий океан. На широте Камчатки он редко бывает тих. Камчатка начинается с океана и им заканчивается. За 300 лет, прошедших после её открытия русскими казаками, не проложено ни одной дороги на полуостров: только морем или по воздуху можно попасть на Камчатку. Люди отсюда уезжают «на материк» и возвращаются «с материка»

Kluchevskoy Volcano Kluchevskoy is the biggest alive volcano in Eurasia – 4,750m over the sea level. It has a perfect, incredibly beautiful cone. The volcano is about 8,000 years old. The first ascent to the top of the volcano was executed by a mountain guide, Daniel Gaus, in Since then plenty of dare-devils went up to the crater of Kluchevskoy. Крупнейший действующий вулкан Евразии. Высота – 7450м над уровнем моря. Имеет почти идеальный, необычайно красивый конус. Возраст вулкана лет. Первое восхождение на вулкан совершил в 1788 году горный проводник Даниил Гаус. С тех пор немало смельчаков поднялось к кратеру Ключевского.

Kluchevskoy Volcano Первое извержение зафиксировал в 1697 году во время своего знаменитого похода Владимир Атласов, покоритель Камчатки. В среднем извержения вулкана происходили раз в пять лет, в отдельные периоды – ежегодно, иногда непрерывно на протяжении нескольких лет. Eruption of the Century It is called the Big Cleft Tolbachinskiy eruption, and it is considered one of the largest basalt eruptions ever known in the volcano belt of Kurils Isles and Kamchatka. It lasted for one and was included in a list of 6 the most powerful cleft eruptions ever happened on Earth. Его называют Большим трещинным Толбачинским извержением и относят к крупнейшим из известных базальтовых извержений в Курило- Камчатском вулканическом поясе. Оно продолжалось почти полтора года (июль 1975г.-декабрь 1976г.) и вошло в число шести наиболее мощных трещинных извержений на Земле.

Waterfalls Waterfalls are so plentiful in Kamchatka that nobody has tried to count it yet. There are no worlds achievements recorded among them, but their scenery has been underestimated yet as the majority of waterfalls hide in the mountains and hardly accessible ravines. Мировых рекордсменов среди них не отмечено, но никто пока в полной мере не оценил их живописность, поскольку большинство водопадов прячется в горах и труднодоступных ущельях.

У ительменов существовало уважительное, даже трепетное отношение к медведю, в своих легендах они называли его «братом человеческим». Забывать об этом братстве люди стали с появлением первых винтовок.

The master of Kamchatka Perhaps the reason of Kamchatka bears unagressive personality is their fish diet that they have preferred to the meat one. Since times immemorial salmon has been the basic food for the Kamchatka and major source of long Kamchatkas winter. Может быть, потому камчатский медведь практически лишён агрессивности, что мясной «диете» предпочёл рыбную. Лосось испокон веку – главная пища «хозяина Камчатки», основной источник жировых запасов, позволяющих продержаться долгую камчатскую зиму.

The master of Kamchatka It may seem incredible, but the huge predator obediently has an almost vegetarian diet for several months before the rivers are filled up with fish. In July you can observe an idyllic picture of bears grazing like domestic cattle in the forests berry fields and in the coastal tundra. Кажется невероятным, но несколько месяцев, пока реки опять не наполнятся рыбой, громадный хищник кормится почти исключительно вегетарианским способом. В июле на приморских тундрах и лесных ягодных полянах можно наблюдать идиллическую картину пасущихся, как домашний скот, медведей.

Valley of Geysers A lot wonderful sites are preserved in the Kronotsky Zapovednik, but none of them is comparable with the uniqueness of the Valley of Geysers – an indisputable Worlds Miracle, the most precious natural relic of the mankind legacy. Много удивительных объектов охраняет Кроноцкий заповедник, но ни один из них не может сравниться по своей уникальности с Долиной Гейзеров – бесспорным Чудом Света, драгоценнейшей природной Реликвией, доставшейся в наследство человечеству.

Valley of Geysers There is still snow everywhere in April. There are over 20 big geysers in the Valley. There are geysers that gush forth every minutes, while others may erupt once in 4-5 hours. В апреле всюду ещё лежит снег. В Долине более 20 крупных гейзеров. Есть гейзеры, которые фонтанируют каждые минут, а есть такие, что извергаются один раз в 4-5 часов.

Valley of Geysers The most dangerous spots in the Valley are covered with grass looking harmless: you sometimes feel an irresistible temptation to step on the green meadow. It is difficult for a person unaware of the Valleys perfidy to imagine that the attractive cover often conceals burning mud, and the foot not gaining a support, will go deep down as if in butter. Наиболее опасные места в Долине покрыты безобидной на вид травкой: иной раз так и хочется встать на зелёный лужок. Человеку, не знакомому с коварством Долины, трудно вообразить, что под привлекательным покровом часто скрывается обжигающая жижа, и нога, не встретив опоры, уйдёт в глубь, как масло.

Kamchatka rarely looks like its photographs. This is not due to the fact that a snap is not more than a snap. Like any other Wonderland, Kamchatka is always changing: it is different every new moment. The more you visit it the more mysterious it gets, the more you speak about it, the more it is difficult to find words to describe it. Камчатка редко бывает похожа на свои фотографии. И не только потому, что снимок всегда лишь снимок. Как и положено сказочной стране, Камчатка постоянно меняется: всякий раз она выглядит по-новому. Чем больше встречаешься с ней, тем загадочнее она становится. Чем чаще рассказываешь о ней, тем труднее подбирать слова.
