Mother: Ivan, its time to wake up! Too late!

Ivan: Im still sleeping. Honestly!

Mother: Its time to get up.

Ivan: What time is it?

Mother: Its time to get up.

Ivan: I dont want to get up.

Mother: You have to get up.

Ivan: I dont want to get up. Im sleepy. [ 5 ].

The mother shakes her head showing that she doesnt believe him. Ivan wakes up, sits on the bed and takes a musical pipe. He tries to bend it and breaks it.

Mother: Have you broken the pipe?

Ivan: No! Honestly!

Mother: I dont believe you!

Ivan: I never tell a lie! (He seems to be offended).

Mother: Well, go and wash your face and hands. Today is your birthday. I am very busy now. In the evening well have your birthday party. Ill bake a birthday cake for you and your friends.

Ivan is in the bathroom. Instead of washing his hands and face he fills the basin with the water and begins playing The Sea Battle.

Mother: Why are you so slow?

Ivan: Cant you imagine? It takes so much time to wash a face, ears and a neck. Id like also to wash my feet.

Ivan comes out of the bathroom, has breakfast and wants to go for a walk. But he decides to sit down at the computer desk, he switches on his computer and starts playing a computer game. At once he finds himself in a virtual world.

A C T 2

Ivan runs away from the barking dog and meets a strangely dressed man.

Man: Where are you going?

Ivan: To the shop. My mum asked me to buy some bananas. Honestly!

Ivan sings the song:

One banana, two bananas, three bananas, four,

Five bananas, six bananas, seven bananas. No more! [ 6 ].

Man: I could take you to the shop. I have a car.

They go by the car, listen to the music.

The song Sing a Rainbow:

Red and yellow and pink and green,

Purple and orange and blue.

I can sing a rainbow,

Sing a rainbow,

Sing a rainbow too.

Listen with your eyes,

And sing everything you see.

You can sing a rainbow,

Sing a rainbow.

Sing along with me…[ 3 ].

Ivan: Where are we going?

Man: To buy some bananas.

Ivan: When will we come?

Man: Very soon. Honestly!

Ivan: Why are you telling a lie? No shops, no bananas!

The man says nothing. The car is near the high building.

Man: Welcome to the President! But you should look well.

The man tears Ivans sleeve off the shirt, Ivans trousers up to the knees. The man puts a toboggan cap on Ivans head.

A C T 3

They come into the hall. The President (a fat boy) is sitting at his desk. Some common boys are standing by the Presidents side.

President: Good afternoon! Well, one more honest boy has come.

Ivan: Yes, I am an honest boy. I never tell a lie.

The boys are giggling, the sharp ends of their toboggan caps are shaking.

President: Yes, we always tell the truth (giggling).

Ivan, the President and the boys sing the song Do You Always Get Up Early?

President: Do you always get up early?

Ivan: Yes, I do. Yes, I do.

President: Do you always get up early?

Ivan: Yes, I do.

Boys: Does he always get up early?

Yes, he always gets up early.

Yes, he gets up very early (giggling).

Ivan: I do, too. [ 4 ].

President (to Ivan): Dear guest, would you like to have a rest in the comfortable armchair?

Ivan sits down. The paper armchair is broken and Ivan is on the floor.

The strangely dressed man appears in the hall and offers ice cream.

Man: Would you like some ice cream?

Ivan takes an ice cream and licks it several times, opens his mouth and soapsuds go out of his mouth. Everybody bursts out laughing.

Ivan: This is a piece of soap!

Ivan is nearly ready to cry. He is offended.

One of the boys: Do you know that snow is hot?

Ivan:

No, its not.

One of the boys:

Snow is hot.

Ivan:

No, its not.

All the boys:

Yes, it is.

Ivan:

No, its not.

Snows not hot.

All the boys:

Yes, it is.

Ivan:

No, its not.

Snows not hot. [ 5 ].

One of the boys: Would you like to have a balloon?

Ivan: Yes, please.

Ivan takes the balloon and it bursts.

Ivan: Oh, no!

Boys: Dont cry! Lets play with the ball!

The boys throw the ball to each other and Ivan cant catch it.

Ivan: I dont want to play with you!

Crying Ivan comes to the man.

Ivan: And when will you take me home?

Man: Put your finger on your nose, put your chin on your hand and youll be at home. Honestly!

The song Put Your Finger On Your Nose.

Put your finger on your nose, on your nose.

Put your finger on your nose,

Then bend down and touch your toes.

Put your finger on your nose, on your nose.

Put your chin on your hand, on your hand.

Put your chin on your hand,

Then hold your foot and stand.

Put your chin on your hand, on your hand. [ 3 ].

Ivan performs the movements but he is still in the hall. Ivan cries. He runs from side to side. He cant find the way out. In one of the corners he is sprinkled with water. Ivan is upset. Everybody laughs. Suddenly Ivan sees some guests dressed in eastern clothes. The admired guests go round the hall.

President: Dear guests! Would you like to have a rest and sit on the sofa?

Ivan: Oh, no! Dont sit on the sofa! The sofa can break! Everything here is false, even the ice cream! This is the building of liars. Could you take me home, please?

The guests nod their heads, take Ivan to the car. They drive around the building. They come into the hall.

Guests: You are at home!

Ivan: Oh, no! You are liars!

Everybody laughs. The guests take off their clothes and they become common boys again. Ivan runs away from the virtual world.

A C T 4

Ivan: I see a bus. Hey, stop, please!

Voice of a driver: Why have you got such strange clothes?

Ivan: We… we have got such a uniform in our school.

Voice of a driver: I dont take liars.

The bus goes away. Ivan looks upset. Some moments later…

Ivan: I see… Its too bad to tell a lie.

Then he stops a car.

Ivan (to the driver): I want to tell you the truth! I wont tell a lie! Could you take me home, please?

A C T 5

Ivan is at home. Today he has his birthday.

Ivan: Oh, mum! I promise, Ill never tell a lie! Ill always tell the truth!

The doorbell rings. Ivan opens the door.

Ivan:

Come to the party!

Dont be late:

Eat all you want-

But dont eat the plate! [ 2 ].

His friends come into the room.

Friends:

Happy birthday to you.

Happy birthday, dear Ivan,

Happy birthday to you!

These are our presents to you!

Ivan: Thank you very much. Hooray! Hooray! Im ten today!

Children sit at the table. They are happy. Its time to sing a song for Ivan and say goodbye to the audience. All the children sing the song Hello, Hi.

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hey

You are so smart today.

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hi

There are no clouds in the sky.

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hey

Everything will be OK!

Hello, Hello, Hello, Hi

Its just the time to say goodbye. [ 1 ].

The children wave goodbye to the audience saying: Goodbye! Goodbye! Goodbye to you!

The end.
