Remember to say: why people continue reading books nowadays; what kinds of books are popular with Russian teenagers; what book you would take with you to a desert island and why. You have to talk for 1.5 – 2 minutes. The examiner will listen until you have finished. Then he/she will ask you some questions.

Common mistakes in monologue 2012 Not all the aspects were covered, yes and no answers, neither explanations nor arguments given to extra questions; Lack of logic, no linking words and expressions, no introduction and / or conclusion Elementary level of vocabulary and grammar; Grammar mistakes in Present и Past Simple, definite and indefinite article and collocations.

Task 2 (2–3 minutes) You play the part of a student in an international language school. You meet your classmate Jane/Jack in the school lobby. He/she looks a bit worried. Find out what your classmate is worried about. Answer your classmates questions about peoples inventions that you consider important. Explain why. Answer the questions about the sports popular in your country and the question about the Olympic Games of Accept the invitation to see a tennis tournament. Ask about the time and the meeting place. You begin the conversation. The examiner will play the part of your classmate. Remember to mention all four aspects of the task take an active part in the conversation and be polite.

Common mistakes in dialogue Not enough attention to the task instruction, which leads to communication mistakes. No interest to a person speaking to a student, short answers, lack of energy in getting the conversation go, not enough questions for discussion, lack of order in listening and speaking. Norms of politeness(e.g. gratitude was not expressed, order and command mixture). Language mistakes in Present and Past Simple, question forms, definite and indefinite articles, and collocations.

Points to keep in mind when preparing to a monologue Think over: the introduction (what it is all about) main part (remember to cover all the point given in the instruction) conclusion (round up, give your point of view), manage the time (1,5 – 2 minutes).

Points to keep in mind when preparing to a dialogue Read all the instructions attentively, focus on the context (situation) of communication and communicative aims It is extremely important to: start the conversation, keep it going reacting to whats been said and to change roles of speaker and listener, taking turns, finish the conversation with an idea of remember the communicative aims of the conversation and finish the dialogue accordingly.
