К ним и отправились эти три учителя в поисках «света жизни». После многих недель бесплодных поисков в Иерусалиме они уже собирались повернуть назад, в Ур, когда встретили Захарию, который убедил их в том, что предметом их поисков был Иисус, и направил их в Вифлеем, где они нашли младенца и оставили свои дары Марии, его земной матери. Во время их визита младенец был почти трех недель от роду.

Christmas Day is celebrated on December the 25. Many look on Christmas as the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, but may be really the tradition goes back to the earliest of times. No one really knows, though the custom of having Christmas trees certainly comes from Germany. At one time Adam and Eve Day was celebrated on 24 December. They decorated a tree, known as the Paradise Tree, with apples and fruit. And they acted the story of the Garden of Eden and how, in the beginning, the world was spoilt. Now a Christmas tree stands in everybodys living room at Christmas. In the earliest of times green trees were symbols of life.

Some say it was Martin Luther, the great sixteenth-century reformer, who first brought the lighted Christmas tree indoors. As he walked through the forest one night he looked up to see the stars shining through the branches. It was so beautiful he went home to tell his children how the lighted tree was like a picture of Jesus, who left the starry heaven to bring light to earth.

Saint Nicholas / Santa Claus Saint Nicholas was a real historical figure of the 4th Century. He lived in ancient Asia Minor (modern Turkey), and was the Bishop of Myra. He was a devout and wealthy Christian pastor whose generosity became world famous. He used his wealth to help sailors, the poor, social outcasts, and children, especially orphans. On Christmas he would anonymously deliver gifts to orphanages for children. The Greek and Russian churches made him the patron saint of gifts, seafarers, scholars, virgins and children.

On Christmas Eve before going to bed, the kids left a glass of milk and some cookies on the kitchen table for Santa Clause to taste as a sing of appreciation for his visit and gifts. What a delight it was for them in the morning to find a half- empty glass, cookie crumbs all over the table and a note which said: "Thank you very much, the cookies were delicious, Santa". In the evening all gathered at the table for Christmas dinner which consisted of ham, potatoes, gravy, homemade bread, vegetables and desert.

Candles were used to light the tree at first, and there were many bad accidents from fire. In 1895 an American telephone worker, Ralph Morris, thought how good the tiny light bulbs on the switchboard would look on his tree! His inspiration led to the many shapes and colours of electric Christmas tree lights manufactured today
