On the initiative of the Association of Independent Directors of Ukraine the conference took place on October 18, 2011 in Kiev; the event was organized and carried out by the Association of Independent Directors of Ukraine and Kiev National University of Economics named after Vadym Getman. Leading experts in CSR from Ukraine and other CIS countries as well as from Sweden and England took place in the event. The following topics have been analyzed at the event: «International CSR practices and experience of Ukrainian companies», «CSR and investments», «International CSR standards». Alexandra Dubovik, Vice-President of the Association of Independent Directors of Ukraine has opened the conference and told the audience about the concept of strategic developments in CSR area in their interconnection with creating an efficient corporate governance system in a company. The Ambassador of Sweden Mr. Stephan Gullgren opened the section of the conference «International CSR practices and experience of Ukrainian companies» and commented on the importance of CSR initiatives from the point of view of long-term strategic sustainable development of companies. In his speech Mr. Gullgren also told about some practical CSR examples in Swedish companies. This topic was further covered by Claudia Sheveliuk, Business development Director of Legal group Pavlenko and Poberezhniuk. In the report Innovative Green Strategies of Swedish companies Claudia gave examples of creating strong brands of separate companies as well as the country of Sweden in general and showed how it is possible to accomplish using CSR concept.

Maryna Saprykina, head of CSR Center in her speech told about national and European model of CSR. Viktoria Grib, head of CSR of DTEK company told the audience about the Program of Social Partnership adopted by the company. Denis Brodskiy, HR Director of Platinum Bank in his speech covered the practice of work of Ukrainian companies in CSR area. Issues connected with corporate governance and the role of independent directors in governing process of the company – in general as well as in CSR area were touched upon in the reports of Jonathan Morly-Kirk, independent director and member of the Association of Independent Directors, and Yaroslav Kinakh, IR Director of «XXI Century company». Viktor Kovalenko, head of sustainable development practice of Ernst and Young in his speech mentioned the importance of CSR initiatives for companies. Vitaliy Tsopa, Management Systems Development Director of «Bureau Veritas Certifications Ukraine» told the audience about international standards covering CSR area, namely : SA 8000, ISO and OHSAS (professional security); ISO 5001 (energy-management); ISO 14001, ISO 14064, EMAS (environmental protection); risk management; lean production etc. 21 speakers spoke at the conference, the conference got high appraisal of the participants.
