Its one of the most spectacular festivals in Europe. Each year a replica of a Viking galley is built for Up Helly Aa.

This festival includes the burning of a Viking galley and a torchlight parade.

Nearly 1000 people dressed as Vikings or in other fancy dress take part in this event.

ST. VALENTINES DAY ST. VALENTINES DAY It is celebrated on the 14 th of February.

People give presents such as flowers or chocolate to each other,

send greeting cards called Valentines which have designs of hearts, angels, gold arrows, roses, cupids.

Guy Fawkes Night It commemorates the discovery of the so-called Gunpowder Plot. It is widely celebrated throughout the country on the 5 th of November by bonfire parties, fireworks, burning a guy.

St. Andrews Day It is on the 30 th of November. It is Scotland's official national day. Many Midwinter customs and folk superstitions are connected to St. Andrew's day.
