MSC.Patran 2005 R2 Support of ABAQUS ODB Results on HPIPF January, 2004

S5-2 ABAQUS has gradually been upgraded to 64-bit Causing their libraries to be binary incompatible with the 32- bit Patran application ABAQUS never did supply 32-bit libraries on HP Itanium Patran therefore has not been able to support access to the ODB file on HPIPF ODB Support on HPIPF

S5-3 In Patran 2005 R2, ABAQUS DRA (Direct Results Access) has been re- architected to use a client-server model (on HPIPF only for now) The server, which accesses the ABAQUS results, may be built completely as a 64-bit application Binary compatible with the ABAQUS libraries The client remains 32-bit and links directly with Patran It communicates with the server via RPCs ODB Support on HPIPF

S5-4 Performance While one might expect a significant drop in performance in a client-server environment, we encountered little loss of response when accessing Abaqus ODB results on HPIPF, compared other platforms that utilize a more direct, dynamic link library, mechanism. ODB Support on HPIPF

S5-5 User Interface No User Interface changes are required ODB Support on HPIPF
