Elizabeth I – was the Queen of England and Queen of Ireland from 17 November 1558, the last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. She was the youngest daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn. The reign of Elizabeth is sometimes called "the golden age of England," in connection with the flourishing of culture (Shakespeare, Marlowe, Bacon), and with the increasing importance of English in the world (the defeat of the Invincible Armada, Drake, Raleigh, the East India Company).

After the death of Mary I, Elizabeth took the throne. By the time of occupation of the throne Elizabeth was twenty-five years. January 25, 1559, opened the first Parliament of Elizabeth. Assume the crown, the young empress immediately felt the brunt of this burden - the country (as well as the whole of Europe) has been split into two camps - the Catholics and Protestants. The Coronation Portrait This portrait shows Elizabeth just after the coronation. The picture shows her as a young, innocent girl with pink cheeks and long hair. Her rich gold gown, jewels and fur show her wealth. She is also wearing the crown and holding the Orb and Scepter to show her royal authority. The message of the picture is that although she is young and beautiful, she has the power to rule the country.

During Elizabeth's reign, England became a powerful maritime power. It was a cause of future conflict with Spain: British sailors regularly plundered the Spanish ship and raided the coasts of the Spanish colonies. In 1570s between England and Spain turned the war on the seas. In politics was the principle of "might makes and rights." Marine Gravelinskoe battle (1588) between the British and Spanish fleets north of Calais ended with the defeat of the Great Spanish Armada. The Armada Portrait This portrait celebrates the victory of England over the Spanish Armada. In the painting Elizabeths right hand rests on a globe. This symbolises that England is a global power. On her right there is a crown. The pictures behind her show the English navy in bright sunshine, and ships of the Spanish Armada being destroyed in a storm.
