Winter Palace It was built in by the architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli. Today the rooms of the Winter Palace house the collections of the Hermitage.
Mikhailovsky Palace In 1895 the emperor Alexander the third ordered that a State Russian Museum be inaugurated here.The palace was turned into a museum of Russian Art. At the present time, the collection of State Russian Museum amount to about 400,000 exihibits. The Mikhailovsky Palace was built after the design of the architect Carlo Rossi between 1819 and The palace was erected for the youngest son of Paul the first, Grand Duke Mikhail.
