Intranet & Extranet An intranet is an internal company network that uses the Internet standards of HTML (HyperText markup Language) and HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol) and the TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) communications protocol along with a graphical Web browser to support business applications and provide departmental, interdepartmental, and companywide communications solutions. An extranet is a collaborative network that links multiple intranets. For example, an extranet may link the intranets of a producer and a supplier. The intranets may link across the Internet (using a security protocol) or through privately owned or leased lines.
