Read the text and find the information about occupation of the people in ancient times The most ancient evidence of inhabitance of people on the territory of Buryatia were approximately thirty – forty thousand years ago. The tribes which inhabited the territory of Buryatia took part in the events at the times of Chingiz- Han (XI-XIII century). They lived in the taiga and their main occupations were hunting and fishing. Some of the tribes raised cattle. Hunting gave them food: animals skins were used for covering yourtas, making clothing and footwear. Since ancient times, the Buryats have valued the tree. They made bows, arrows, utensils. A horse was always side by side with a Buryat. It saved his master during migrations and armed conflicts and supplied him with meat and koumiss. From childhood men and women wore long robes. There were clothes for every day and for holidays. The holiday clothes were decorated with stripes of velvet, silk, silver, coral and embroidery. Caps had a conical crown usually covered with silk or woolen cloth. The life of these people was very difficult. Cold winds and hot summers taught them to be tough, patient. They respected nature which gave them all for life. In the middle of XVII century the first Russians settled in Buryatia. That was the period marked by joining Buryatia and Russia. II. 9 . Unit VII. Meals, traditions I. Read the recipe of the national Buryat dish boozy and speak how to cook it. You need: For minced meat: ½ a kilo of beef 200 gr. of pork 1 teaspoon of salt 1 onion Some pepper For pastry: ½ a kilo of flour 1 teaspoon of salt 1 egg A cup of water. 1. Mince and mix meat. 2. Add salt, pepper and onion. 3. Mix the flour, salt and egg in a bowl 4. Add some water. 5. Roll out the pastry to about ½ cm. thick 6. Cut the pastry into rounds 7. Put a tablespoon of minced meat on each round and pince the edges 8. Put boozies in a special pot and let them cook over steam during minutes. Enjoy your boozies and tea with milk. II.
