Hundt & Weber was founded 1864 as a copper foundry. After the second world war H&W started with manufacture of low voltage switchgears AC-air circuit breaker and AC molded case circuit breaker. Short circuit switches as a special product for electrolysis, needed in the chemical industry. Later H&W was a 100 % daughter from Westinghouse USA. In this period H&W developed encapsulated main contacts for all kind of electrolysis. Westinghouse collapsed 1988 and H&W was founded as an AG. independent company: Hundt & Weber Schaltgeräte AG. The product range of low voltage AC circuit breaker and molded case circuit breaker have been stopped, because of strong world wide low prices and many competitors like Merlin-Gerin – Siemens – Mitsubishi – Unelec – ABB – Sace etc. The product encapsulated DC switches has been sucessfull, but was to small for total company with 50 employees. This was one point of the insolvency of the H&W AG. In September 2007 Ferraz Shawmut signed contract for this special H&W line, as a complementary product range to the existing Ferraz switch production line. General Information - 2

Modul 6000 with stainless steel contact plates Connection copper bolted a. Encapsulated system Modul 6000 Standard modules with 120x120 mm stainless steel connector plates for common use with copper busbar systems allow to use of contact systems in an ambient of high agressive atmosphere, which can oxidize the surface of the contact plates. The connection plates are made of stainless steel with various dimensions, which offer an optimum adaption to existing busbar systems. The styling of the connection plates ensures the necessary surface pressure of the contacts.The use of stainless steel plates offers also the reduction of eddy-current losses with AC–switches and magnetic fields are reduced at higher DC currents. A seal-ring between the connection-plates and the contact pieces serves for a hermetical seal against exterior influences.
Special disigned modules Exactly for high currents systems with aluminium busbars, contact systems with connection plates with explosion bonded aluminium layers should be provided. In this case, one or both connection plates can be supplied with aluminium layers. Negative influence due to the connection of copper-aluminium bars are completely excluded. Different dimensions of the connection plates and bus-bars provide an optimum adaption to the square sections of the different Aluminium or Copper bus-bar system. One modul is normally rated for Amps. If higher ratings are required, adequate numbers of contacts are connected in parallel and operated with a common mechanism. The encapsulated modul consist of two connector plates A and B and high- elastic bellow. The electrical contacts are made of silver alloy with very good electrical data. The electrical connection plate A shows a milled silver contact in one direction and the electrical connection plate B shows a 90° moved milled contact. b. DC Isolator HSE - HSD The shown Encapsulated Modules are integrated in DC-switches. The high-current DC Isolators and Change-over switches consist of a contacts system with one or more integrated Modules 6000 The DC Isolator HSE 6 – HSE 30 kA HSD 36- HSD 72 kA allow an installation in any position direct into busbar system without wall support. One side of the switch is equipped with flexible copper or Aluminium connectors, There is no further expension joints are necessary. The other side has solid copper or aluminium bus ducts The ON-OFF position is indicated by mechanical indicator HSE 12kA man

Switchgear - combination for electrolysis process MEMBRAN-BI-POLAR Technology Application In the electrical chemistry, specially in the electrolysis processes, Hundt & Weber AG developed encapsulated short circuit switches, which are installed worldwide in electrolysis plants. Low maintenance and high security of switch operations under full power are characteristics of H&W equipment. Since 50 years Hundt & Weber AG delivered short circuit switches for all kind of electrolysis: For chlorine electrolysis there are different processes. H&W developed for each process individual switches. Since more than 20 years Bi-Polar- Membran process is world wide preferred. Ferraz H&W Group has developed switch combination together with the chemistry industry. The high request of the cell suppliers are satisfied by Ferraz H&W. Bi-polar-Membran cells are electrical switched parallel in opposite to Amalgam- Diapragma – and Mono-polar processes. These special switches HSE/HSD and HSLT suffice the high required standard for Bi-polar- Membran cells: Operating current up to 30 kA DC ; operating voltage up to 750 V DC Switching capacity under full voltage and curr Encapsulated main-contacts – locking system Terminal connection : Copper or Aluminium Standard installation with interlocking for one cell unit are :
One DC Isolator OFF-LOAD; H&W type : HSE /HSD in minus pole One DC – Breaker ON-LOAD; H&W type : HSLT in plus pole Control : by locking magnet and auxiliary set Protection roof against dirty environment Operating sequence per unit : During production DC Isolator HSE/HSD and DC Braker HSLT are in ON position. In case of maintenance of one unit only the cell has to switch OFF. First step : DC ON-Load HSLT has to switch off Second step : DC OFF-Load has to switch off. The right switch-sequence guarantees the locking system. Bi-Polar- Membran Technology There are some cell suppliers, who install per cell unit two DC Isolators HSE/HSD and one DC Breaker HSLT. In this application the two DC Isolator are in ON position during production and the DC Breaker is in OFF position only. In case of maintenance at first the ON-Load switch will switch in ON position and second step the two OFF Load switches will switch in OFF position. The right switch sequence guarantees a locking system.
For further information: In some new plants there are only DC OFF LOAD Isolators in plus-and minus pole. Each cell group is electrical supplied by an own rectifier. The switch equipment is certificated by IPH Institutes in Berlin – Germany The switches are in accordance with IEC ; IEC 947-2
