Unit: Canada Grade Level: 3 Lessons #1: Geography of Canada (Activities 1-2)

OBJECTIVES: The students will use the video Geography of Canada, the Internet, and library sources to learn about the provinces of Canada. The students will create maps of Canada, indicating the provinces, major urban center, and territories of Canada The students will compare and contrast the provinces of Canada by writing descriptive paragraphs of each province.

MATERIALS: Pencils, erasers, and rulers Fine point black pens (optional) Crayons, colored pencils, or markers (optional) Blank maps of Canada (one per student) Lined writing paper Computer with Internet access (optional) Geography of Canada video and VCR Geography texts and other library sources

Student Activities: Watch video discuss Canadas geographic divisions and the unique features of each province. Fill in blank map of Canada, indicating each province and territory, and all of Canadas major urban center. Write descriptive paragraph about each of Canadas provinces.

The History of Canadas Flag ST.GEORGES CROSS: Carried over by Cabot in 1497 when he reached the east coast of Canada. FLEUR-DE-LIS: Flown by the French when Canadian land was claimed for the King of France.
