ISO This is the base group of standards where general guideline for evaluation of machine vibration is given when vibration is measured on non-rotating parts such as bearing housings. The standard is utilized 3 main vibration parameters: acceleration, velocity and displacement and described rules for applying limits. Following to guidelines in most cases allow to expect working condition of equipment.

Measurement parameters Frequency range: 10 – 1000 Hz Magnitude units - А,V,S Levels Points

Measurement points on bearing housing

Measurement points on small motor

Measurement points motor and vertical machine

Evaluation criteria Criteria 1 – magnitude level Criteria 1 is related to limits of absolute vibration levels with respect to dinamic loads on the bearing and transition of vibration through foundation. Max value taken on every bearing is compared to limits existing for 4 zones related to machinery condition.

Classification of zones Zone А – Newly commissioned machinery. Zone В – Machine could operate with no limits. Zone С – Machine needs for maintanence and could operated limited period of time. Zone D – Serious malfunction of machine is expected.

Limits for machinery condition zones

Criteria 2 – changing of measured values Criteria is relied on changes of values compare to referencies. Great changes of vibration (increase or decrease) in broadband frequency range could be the signal to inspect condition of machine even if limits of zone C are still not exceeded. Evaluation criteria

Alarm levels for vibration «ALARM» - overall vibration level exceeded limits when machine need inspection and maintenance action to be done. Operation of machine is limited. «FAULT» - overall vibration level exceeded limits when further machine operation could lead to breakdown. Action to lower vibration is required immediately or machinery should be stopped.

Machinery classification Class 1 – Small machines to 15 kW Class 2 – Machines up to 75 kW on light foundations and machines up to 300 kW on heavy foundations Class 3 – Machines above 300 kW on heavy and rigid foundations Class 4 - Machines above 300 kW on flexible foundations (soft mount)
