The centre of the village Golovchino is Karl Marx Street former Plan. A strange name, isnt it? It has its history. In the middle of the 19th century the landowner Horvat began to give farmsteads to his peasants. The plots were cut according to the plan on the left side of the street. Thats why the street got the name Plan. It was finally formed after the revolution and renamed to Karl Marks in Nowadays the street is the visiting card of the village. Well-to-do houses, modern motor road, many private shops, a café and lime alley say much about the culture of the inhabitants. The street leads to the central square with the monument to heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The names of 489 defenders are cut here. There is the Eternal Flame at the monument. The heroes of the Great Patriotic War lived in Golovchino are Kravchenko, Shchipanov, Vlasenko. We are proud of them and always remember them.

In their free time and on holidays the people like to walk in the park-garden. It is the monument of park-garden architecture of the 19th century. It has the form of the Roman numeral XIX. There are many old trees and beautiful alleys here.

Local Secondary School This is our school. It is a nice three- storeyed building with a fountain and many flower- beds in front of it.

Our Sights We are proud of our building Krugloe. It is a monument of architecture. Now it is a museum and a café.

Our Churches In this picture you can see our local church. It is a holy place for us. And a new church is being built now.

There is factory in our village. It produces sure Golovchino is situated on the Vorskla-river. On the territory of the village there is the preservation The-Forest- On-The – Vorskla. More then 550 kinds of creatures and plants are protected here.

II. You know, Lisa joined you in the 5th form, three years ago. Tell, how the village had changed by the time Lisa came here. (Use the Past Simple and Past Perfect Tenses). 10 October 2008 Dear Editor, My name is Lisa. I live in a countryside in the village of Golovchino Graivoron District Belgorod Region. It is a picturesque place situated on Vorskla-River. But I am worried about environmental problems in our place. There is a sugar factory in our village and it throws wastes into air and water. Besides, there are so many cars in the streets that pollution is awful. I am very concerned about air pollution. I am afraid of dangerous gases. When we breathe dirty air, we become ill. More than that, when the air is polluted, the climate is changed. I think it would be a good idea to have a no car day. Another problem is our Vorskla River. I am worried that water is polluted. The people throw litter in the river and cause water pollution. The fish is damaged and die and it is dangerous for people to swim in dirty water. We should be friends to fish and dont throw garbage into their homes. In our village there is a park-garden. It is a monument of park-garden architecture. But we leave litter, plastic and glass bottles there and break and cut trees. I find this problem worrying. The nature and birds are damaged. We should always put garbage in the garbage bins. I think it is necessary to feed animals in minter and build bird-houses. We should plant flowers and trees and protect wildlife.
