Aleksandr Borodin Russian scientist, chemist, and one of the best Russian composers of the Romantic Period. His primary career was that of a very successful professor of chemistry, worked along with Mendeleev. Despite his world fame, he was an amateur musician, he played the piano, flute and cello and who enjoyed composing in his spare time. Aleksandr Borodin was one of the five Russian composers known as the Mighty Handful, who were dedicated to producing a specifically Russian kind of art music. Borodins life was incredibly busy and his apartment was continually filled with visitors and family. It is surprising that he created as much music as he did. Aleksandr Borodin music contains wonderful melodies that remind of old Russia. He wrote many symphonies. His most famous composition is the opera, Prince Igor, on which he worked for 18 years. He wrote both lyrics and music, but never finished it. His friends, Rimsky- Korsakov and Aleksandr Glazunow, completed it after his death. V. Vasnetsov, Bogatyrs V. Они назывались «Могучая Кучка». Бородин всегда был очень занят. Его дом всегда был полон гостей. Удивительно, как он успел написать столько сильных музыкальных произведений! Александр Бородин написал много симфоний. Но его самое знаменитое произведение – это опера «Князь Игорь». Бородин написал и слова, и музыку к этой опере. Он писал её 18 лет и умер не закончив!
