Lived – , an English novelist. Born at Steventon near Basingstoke, the seventh child in the eight-child family. Jane Austen was primarily educated at home by her father and elder brothers and through her own reading. Not married.

The nineteenth century saw a great surge of events in history and politics. Historical era which Austen lived in is an interesting one. Her novels are fascinated with the odd and peculiar interactions between people of different social levels – a relatively new development in England at the time. None of her characters in Sense and Sensibility are strongly related to the upper levels of high society; even the wealthiest ones aren't integrated into aristocratic social circles.

The story centers on the sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. They are forced to leave their home, and along with their mother and younger sister, they move, in reduced circumstances, to the west of England. Elinor is the "sense" and Marianne is the "sensibility" of the story. They consider "good marriage means support for the future. As their plans for marriage are interrupted by various troubles and misunderstandings, Jane Austen explores the customs of her society and the role of marriage during the early nineteenth century.

is the eldest daughter at the age of 19. She forms Sense in the title of Austens novel. Shes reserved, a little closed and not often shows her feelings. She thinks deeply about everything and always gives advice to her mother Mrs. Dashwood. She is polite to everybody.

is the second daughter of Mrs. Dashwood. Unlike her sister Elinor, Marianne is very emotional, believes in real love and waits for it. Shes open, and shes not afraid of showing her feelings from inside. Marianne frankly expresses her dislike.

is the brother of Fanny Dashwood. He isnt handsome, but hes a very clever and pleasant person. He falls in love with Elinor. Thats why, Mrs. Dashwood planned to marry Elinor to him, but Marianne doesnt approve this idea, because she thinks he is so serious and boring. Anyway at the end, he marries to Elinor and becomes a priest.

is a close friend of Sir John Middleton. He is forty and seems to be a happy, friendly man. He isnt handsome, either, but he is a gentleman. He has sympathy to Marianne. He is a very honorable friend to the Dashwoods, particularly Elinor.

is the relative of Sir John, who has nice house in Combe Magna in Somerset. Hes very handsome, poetry- loving, musical and supposedly rich. He likes dancing and riding a horse. He has artistic and cultural sensibilities. Though, he's riddled with problems, like debt, unfaithfulness, and general debauchery.

I liked this story of Jane Austen. All of her characters in this book are different. Some are serious, some are emotional, some are full of love, but others – a little selfish and extraordinary. I am amazed, how Jane Austen could mix such features and write a life story. Everyone who reads her books, can get an important lesson for their lives, because this book is the reflect of real life. I would advise this book to everyone, especially to teenagers and young people. I consider, it would be exciting to know about real love and fight for true love.
