Multi-Site Mobility Networking DECT Home Site DECT Remote Site DECT Remote Site The handset is detected on arrival at the remote site Calls are forwarded from the home site to the remote site If call is not answered or busy it follows the same rules as if at home site – Transfer to Voice Mail or another number. Remote Site DECT
Typical DECT Customer – Hospital Danderyds Hospital in Sweden The Challenge Remain in contact with a highly mobile on-site staff The Solution - A Meridian 1 Option 81 - Over 500 C4050 DECT handsets Base stations - DECT OTM Why DECT? - GSM is inappropriate near sensitive medical equipment. They are also expensive, not part of the dialling plan and radio coverage in all parts of the building is not guaranteed. -Pagers are inefficient (increase the operator load). -WVoIP is not appropriate as wireless data not required.
In Summary Meridian / Succession DECT Provides private wireless in-building telephony Is required because people send a lot of time away from their desks yet need to remain in contact Is secure, low cost, low power output and highly featured It complements circuit switched and IP Telephony
BACKUP
DECT vs OEM DECT Residential style –Very simplistic solution with very limited coverage (single cell) –Not a realistic business telephony solution –Poor voice quality Adjunct Style –Another system to manage (DECT integrated into OTM) –Requires analogue trunk ports and so increases costs –Introduces another point of failure which must be backed up –No feature pull-through from PBX
DECT vs WVoIP If you need wireless data then use WVoIP. In not then use MDECT because of : –Performance wireline voice quality, versus GSM type quality for WVoIP –Price WVoIP Solutions are more expensive –Better feature Pull through from PBX
MDECT vs GSM Choose GSM when off-site. Choose DECT for calls on site because: –DECT has Wireline voice quality –There is no call charge for on-site calls –You use your private network of inter-site calls (can be 50% of calls!) –You pay fixed line charges for external calls –You may have a personal preference to use a low power device (DECT is approx10% of GSM radiated power) –Poor GSM radio coverage in buildings –GSM usage may be forbidden (Hospitals, Power Stations, near hazardous materials)
MDECT vs Cisco DECT Cisco estimated to be planning to endorse traditional DECT telephony –Weakness of Cisco solution is that it is an adjunct OEM product Adjunct product –Another system to manage (DECT integrated into OTM) –IP connection is expected to be between CallManager and DECT system only basestations are fixed wired using ISDN2 Handsets use DECT not WVoIP –Introduces another point of failure which must be backed up –Limited handsets (125 handsets), very limited coverage (32 basestations) –Only offer one handset (no intrinsically safe set) –Basestation supports limited voice calls (max of 4) –Unknown feature pull-through from PBX *This information is purely speculative at this point in time
DECT Pricing Programme To promote the launch of the new C4012 and C4030 DECT Handsets Nortel Networks is pleased to announce a DECT marketing programme which reduces the price of a typical DECT system by around 20%. For ease of administration this programme is reflected directly in the price book, specifically: the C4012, C4030 and C4050 handsets plus the C4600 six channel base station have all been temporarily reduced in price. In a seperate development the C4610 twelve channel base station has be increased in price to reflect the higher product costs associated with this lower volume product

VoIP cases, vacon Plc Vacon Plc. Leading frequency converter manufacturer. Earlier Vacon used Ericsson MD 110 platform with LIMs –Rls was rather old and therefore the upgrade was expensive –Ericsson VoIP story was weak, without line side –New building with one separate site to be equipped Vacon demanded a system with future proof –VoIP lineside, DECT and messaging, including fax –No more upgrades with forklift –CISCO as network supplier Today, Meridian 1 in place and happy, public customer –100 X i2004 sets branch office –140 X M X i2004 sets, –21 DECT handsets –Meridian MAIL

System reset every morning –Lack of features and app. as: conf, music, ACD and DECT –Lack of support –Mobile costs rised more than 500k TJ demanded a system with 100% functional proof –Known and bullet proof system –Features and functions in place –1 PC-based Attendant for all three sites with link to access control Today, Meridian 1 in all three places and happy, public customer –3 IP trunks. Networked over Sonera DATANET Prime (QoS) –6 X i2004 sets for branch offices –200 X M3904 –Meridian MAIL –35 DECT sets in headquarters
