He was born in 1938, on the sixth of January in the north of Milan, in worker's area, more precisely on the street Gluk, in the family of poor farmers. They came from the south in search of job and luck. The family was very friendly and musical. Very likely that Adriano wasn't very keen of music.

As a teenager he was much more interested in the profession of watchmaker. He became proficient in clocks working in the workshop of his uncle. Since his twelfths he has become an apprentice in the workshop, and probably would grow as a watchmaker, but for the success in the amateur vaudeville, when Adriano fascinated the audience by side-splitting parody of young, at that time, singer Lui Prima, Adriano outwardly looked like Lui.

He was invited to the amateur contests, and in 1950 he performed his first two smash- hits. It was a time of rock'n'roll, and Celentano like many others started imitating the masters of this school, such as Elvis Presley, Jerry Li Luis. He sang songs of their repertory, vamping with guitar.

In 1954 Celentano began performing his own songs, and in 1955 his friend Mikele del Prete brought him his poems, from that moment they started working together.

In 1957 in the Milan palace of sport Ghiaccio went off pantoitalian contest of rock'n'roll. Several evenings performers in Italian and English sang the songs of their idols. A few dared to present songs of their own. Celentano did, in opinion of all listeners his song «I will say you ciao»was a real adornment of the contest. It is necessary to mention natural plasticity of Adriano, which is very important for rock'n'roll performer. Not in vain he was called «Mollegiato which means «all on springs. He won that contest. In 1959 he won the festival of light music in Ancona with the song Your kiss is like a rock («Il tuo bacio e come un rock). From that moment he became a recognized «rock'n'roller»of Italy.

On the 19 of December 1961 after great success in San Remo he established the firm of gramophone recording - Clan Celentano. Now this firm consists of publishing house, concert agency, sound and video recording studio. 150 men there work, it is run by his brother Alessandro. Later many groups, «Beatles», «Rolling Stones» for being independent from producers and fashion founded own companies, but at the very beginning of sixties such an action was very brave and unusual.

After victory in the contest Canzossimo in 1962 with the song You are far from me (Stai lontana da me), Celentano went on a tour in France and Spain, where he received the opportunity to appear on a television with series of shows.

In 1963 Celentano acted in a film Some strange bozo (Uno strano tipo) with his future wife, famous actress Claudia Mori. In 1964 Adriano and Claudia married.

Critics consider in1966 the turning point in the creative work of Adriano. That year he arrived in San Remo with a song about the fate of simple Milan guy – Guy from the street Gluk (Il ragazzo della via Gluk). Critics and audience were in ecstasy of great sincerity of song. It was translated to 22 languages, more than 4 months it lead Italian hit-parades, it was the first pungent socio-political song and the first Celentano's song that spread all over the world. Later it was included into the textbooks as an appeal to careful attitude to nature. After this in his songs more frequently appeared political and antiwar themes, but whichever pungent was the song, never was it hopeless: cheerfulness and optimism never leave Celentano.

Great success had such songs as Who doesn't work, doesn't love, Pinocchio (from album Disasters of our century, that is dedicated to problems of contemporary world and Italy). In the end of sixties the song 24,000 kisses(24,000 baci) is declared one of the best Italian songs of passed ten years. After a number of years his songs became more serious. The supreme duty of actor is to protest against injustice - says Adriano.

During more than forty years of work Celentano has issued more than 30 albums with 70 millions of edition. Besides musical work Celentano engaged in cinema. In seventies he often acted in the films and made his own films. He acted in forty films, and started in 1959 with episodic roles of rock-singers. He also acted in film of Federico Fellini Sweet life (La dolce vita). And certainly he sings in his films. In 70-s and 80-s he did it regularly. In that time the films were on the pick of celebrity.

Nowadays Celentano lives 100 km from Milan secluded on the villa with his wife Claudia, sometimes repairing watches.

I have two professions, - says Adriano, - the first I learned in childhood, I'm a watchmaker. It's a pity that I didn't take the instruments, I would repair someone's watches... My second profession is actor. And it became the main. I use this profession in order to express that I believe. He has three children Rosita, Giacomo, and Rosalinda. In 2007 Celentano has issued new disk DORMI AMORE la situazione non e buona («Sleep my love, the situation is not good).
