Malta Malta is a small island in the Mediterranean sea, the capital is Valetta, the official language is English, the area is 300 sq. km. The population is The diving is the most popular sport activity on the island, tourist industry is very important to the economy. Malta is very well fortified because for many years it was the stronghold of the Order of the Maltese Knights. Warm sea attracts lots of tourists and that contributes greatly to the countrys prosperity. The country has some big and popular English Language Schools.

Malta - the republic in the Mediterranean Sea In the 9 th century Malta was inhabited by the Arabs. Later, in the 16 th century the island became the property of the Order of Malta. The island was besieged many times but the knights successfully drove back all attacks (by that time the island had been well fortified)

Map of Malta In 1798 Malta went under the control of France. The Order, however, survived and remained on the island. In 1814 Malta became the British colony and English became the official language. In 1987 Malta became independent Republic but retained English as the official language.

As soon as Malta became Republic it got the Flag of its own.
