That was the period of bronze and early iron. 3.Kenigsberg means the Royal Mountain. 4.Kenigsberg was founded to defend local christians. 5.In 1333 the first school was founded in Altstadt (the Old Town). 6.In 1544 Kenigsberg University called Albertina was open. It was named after earl Albrecht who founded this University.

7.In 1697 Peter I studied artillery in Kenigsberg as Peter Michailov. He was one of the best students. 8.In 1896 the Zoo was open and the Botanic Gardens were started. 9.World War II was a tragedy for Kenigsberg. It was bombarded by Soviet air force in 1941 first. 10.In 1944 American air force bombarded the town heavily. The central districts were practically fully destroyed. 11.After World War II Kenigsberg and the territory close to it became the territory of the Soviet Union. It was the decision of the Conferences in Yalta and Potsdam. 12.On July the 4 th 1946 the city got the name of Kalinin, one of the state figures of the Soviet Union. A new period in the history of the city began.
