A drug is any chemical you take that affects the way your body works. Alcohol, caffeine, aspirin and nicotine are all drugs.

A drug must be able to pass from your body into your brain. Once inside your brain, drugs can change the messages your brain cells are sending to each other, and to the rest of your body. They do this by interfering with your brain's own chemical signals: neurotransmitters that transfer signals across synapses.

Main short- term physical effects of cannabis

Cannabis has been used for medical purposes for many centuries. In almost all countries around the world drug addiction is acknowledged as a problem, but in different countries they choose different strategies to counter this problem. In Russia, possession of over 6 grams of marijuana is a criminal offense. In Ukraine, law enforcement counters drug problem by closing night clubs. Bird In Flight attempted to find out what happens in countries that abandon such repressive measures.

The number of states that have tried to decriminalize drugs in different ways has long ago reached more than twenty. And yet, Portugal remains the only country that fully made their possession and use not punishable by criminal law. Portugals experience is also the oldest: the corresponding legislation has been in place since July 1, 2001 The prerequisite for adopting this law was the failure of traditional methods for fighting drug addiction in the country: about 1% of population of Portugal were addicted to drugs by The country places first in Europe for the number of drug addicted people living with HIV and overdose-related deaths. The authorities needed to change their approach fast.

So, instead of countering people, they started countering the disease. Possession and use of drugs changed from being criminal offenses to being administrative offenses. The budget that earlier used to be allocated for prisoner room and board for those who were convicted of drug-related offenses was transferred to treatment programs.

I really don't understand why more dangerous drug like alcohol and tobacco are legalized and cannabis that have less dangerous, can be used in medicine and help people, are banned. I hope we understand that prohibition it's not an outlet. Netherlands, Portugales, Canada changed their politics about drugs and result was impressive, less quantity drug addicts. So i think we can take their experience and change our politics about сannabis.
