The presentation of information can be carried out using languages that are sign systems. Each sign system is built on the basis of a certain alphabet and the rules for performing operations on signs.
Coding is the operation of converting signs or groups of characters of one sign system into signs or groups of signs of another sign system. Decoding is the reverse process.
The identification of information is the process of forming a certain representation of information. In the narrower sense, the term "coding" is often understood as the transition from one form of presentation of information to another, more convenient for storage, transmission or processing.
