3 Sometimes underlying й appears or you have to add ь to keep softness: лекци задани общежити недел дын я е я е я й й й ь ь

5 If there is no ending in NSg add -ов / -ев / -ёв for words ending in hard consonants or й стол абзац кролик музе гени й ев ов ев ов й

6 Often Genitive plural formation requires FILL VOWELS Fill vowels often appear in the Nom. Sg., though you may not think of them this way: GSg отца NPl отцы but NSg отец GSg подарка NPl подарки but NSg подарок GSg котёнка PSg о котёнке but NSg котёнок

7 These fill vowels you know, and its easy to remove them. In GPl you may have to insert them, which means you have to choose окно девушка канарейка американка окон девушек канареек американок

8 The fill vowel is usually e овца деревня письмо сестра овец деревень писем сестёр

9 But its о if theres a velar (к, г, х) around, and к is very common: окно кухня пятёрка англичанка окон кухонь пятерок англичанок

10 But spelling rules still trump this rule: ляжка кошка девочка бабушка ляжек кошек девочек бабушек

11 Dont forget that й + о = е майка тройка скамейка копейка маек троек скамеек копеек

12 Sometimes underlying й appears AND you get a fill vowel: статья семья свинья This is not the ending -ей and there is no ь! статей семей свиней

13 Plurals in -ья have two patterns: листья листьев деревья деревьев братья братьев мужья мужей сыновья сыновей князья князей друзья друзей

14 Some GPl are irregular поле полей море морей платье платьев дядя дядей тётя тётей яйцо яиц

15 For some nouns GPl = NSg человек - человек раз - раз солдат - солдат
